SIERRA SLATE ARTIST STATEMENT
Every piece produced in the Sierra Slate workshop is designed unique and made one of a kind by hand . The slate I get from many places is hand cut with a wet saw and hand tools to create the individual parts and frames in the artwork. There are two product lines; slate images and my new development of slate framed mirrors that have been a success in the business.
The slate images are hand printed on slate center pieces which are framed also by slate of different color and textures. The technique of a permanent print on stone is a trade secret used and developed 18 years ago. All the pictures used have been photographed by me and other artists I collaborate with and many are from older public domain. The mirrors are produced with a combination of hand forged copper and slate parts that create a one of a kind slate frame for different sized mirrors.
